Solar Power Plants
Projects are currently being assessed for the construction of solar power plants in South Africa, ranging in size from 9MW-100MW. Areas are being considered which are rich in solar resources and readily integrated into the national power grid.

South Africa's plentiful solar resources and developed infrastructure make it a prime candidate for large-scale solar power generation. When a large plant of this type is operational, it will provide enough renewable electricity to power nearly 35 000 average South African homes annually. Such projects provide investors and independent power producers (IPP's) with a reliable and healthy return on investment, and do so in a sustainable manner. Sustainable Projects has the experience, contacts, and expertise to design and facilitate construction of various large-scale sustainable power generation projects.
Concentrated Solar
Concentrated solar power (CSP) involves concentrating the sun's rays via parabolic trough-shaped mirrors which heat a fluid contained in a central tube, or by focusing the rays on a central tower which contains fluid. This fluid is ultimately used to produce steam and drive a turbine, thereby producing electricity. Concentrated solar power generation has been in use in the US since the 1980's and is becoming cheaper and more powerful. These plants can produce a large amount of electricity, the largest under construction being a 250MW plant in the United States. Implementing thermal storage, using a heat transfer fluid (HTF) or molten salt, can increase the production capacity of CSP substantially.
Photovoltaic
PV power plants consist of an array of solar panels, connected to a central system which aggregates and converts the power, and feeds it into the grid. They are the easiest to build and maintain, and require minimal monitoring and cleaning. PV power arrays are also easily scalable to nearly any size of project and can be mounted on urban rooftops or parking lots, placed in rural off-grid locations, or integrated into residential power grids. Generation depends on the intensity and duration of sunlight, and automatic tracking systems can increase power yield by as much as 45% and reduce the area required for solar collection.
