Commercial Wind Farms

Commercial or utility-scale wind farms consist of groups of large wind turbines connected to a central power station from which the electricity is fed into the grid.

Large-scale wind is among the cheapest forms of renewable energy generation per kWh.  Darling Wind Farm in the Western Cape was South Africa's first commercial wind farm and remains the largest at 5.2MW followed by Klipheuwel wind farm at 3.2MW.  Roscoe Wind Farm in Texas, USA, is the world's largest, rated at 780MW's.

Commercial wind farms can offer a healthy return on investment for investors or independent power producers (IPP's), offering a fuel-cost free, clean power alternative to fossil fuel power plants.
