The Green TreatyWritten by Gary Petzer
Finally the human race now sees green is the word for the future. A green future of possibility for both us and the generations to come. Seems that our need to progress has slowly led us back to where it all began, when green was such a dominant colour. It surrounded us and fed us. We traded green for anything and we lived by the green code; once removed must be replaced or at least nurtured for another day of green.
The word green probably creates all numbers of thoughts and ideas
amongst us all, it has undoubtedly become the universal colour of all
that is natural and earth friendly.
GREEN PEACE is an organisation who take the word green very seriously
and the word peace a little less seriously but they have managed to
outline the need for ‘earth protection’ as I like to call it. After all
to protect the earth is to protect all and everything within her
boundaries.
The trend for green thinking is slowly creeping into general society.
It is becoming a way of life without having to wander too far away from
progression; in fact it has become a part of progression. The every day
man is seeing the need for greener thinking by incorporating it into
his home and work place without having to make major changes in every
day operations. He is merely up-grading to a better, cleaner and more
energy sustainable way of completing a daily routine with less strain
on his natural resources.
Instead of just waiting for others to make the change, we all know
needs to happen, we the average person on the street is finally taking
the green initiative into our own hands, by using the products made
available to us by companies leading the way in green thinking;
companies such as ourselves, and others, who are joining the trek to a
greener future.
SOLAR ENERGY which is harnessed in so many ways is fast becoming the
power source that assists your mains power to reduce load on our main
power grids which in recent times have become unable to cater for the
growing demand of South Africa. Solar energy is clean and safe and new
developments have seen it become a common energy source in the average
household.
GREY WATER systems have seen small and large scale assistance to our
average daily water consumption. Drought can lead to a change in daily
life but grey water systems make this change minimal as well as make a
contribution to maintaining dam and reservoir levels for annual water
consumption which so often seem to be in the red.
Solar energy and grey water are two ways of attaining sustainable
living, two amongst many others that have emerged from technical
development and many that have simply been adapted from age old
techniques. Always helping the green thinking person to make their mark
on a new way forward for us all, even if your intentions aren’t green
related then I’m sure you, like every other south African can’t deny we
are currently dealing with serious energy issues and we all need to
take a hand in not only averting an all out crisis but stabilising our
current situation as well as keeping it stable for time thereafter. |
